How Scottsdale Car Culture Built A New Car Condo Market

How Scottsdale’s Car Culture Grew

Scottsdale’s new car condos have decades of automotive history behind them. Barrett-Jackson helped put the city on the collector-car calendar. Local gatherings kept the interest going between auctions. Now, private garage developments around Scottsdale Airpark & WestWorld are giving that culture more permanent space. The garages are the latest chapter in a story Scottsdale has been building for years.

Quick Points

  • Barrett-Jackson’s roots reach back to 1967.
  • Local car gatherings keep the culture active.
  • Five garage developments expand the ownership options.
  • Aviation suh as FlexJet & nearby development add more.

Start With The Cars That Put Scottsdale On The Map

According to Barrett-Jackson’s company history, Tom Barrett & Russ Jackson’s families helped establish the Fiesta de los Autos Elegantes in 1967, raising money for Scottsdale’s art center & library. Their first collector-car auction followed in 1971. By 1989, the growing auction had moved to WestWorld. Television coverage later carried Scottsdale’s automotive scene into homes far beyond Arizona. Classic cars, muscle cars, restored collectibles, & exotic vehicles became part of the city’s public identity.

That history helps explain the location of today’s garage projects. WestWorld already gives collectors a reason to return. Building dedicated vehicle storage in the surrounding area extends the connection beyond auction week.

Keep The Culture Moving Between Auctions

An automotive community needs places to gather throughout the year. Scuderia Southwest’s Scottsdale Motorsports Gathering is one part of that local tradition. Highline Autos’ Cars & Coffee at High Street in Desert Ridge adds another gathering point near Desert Ridge. These events put the cars on display & create opportunities to talk with their owners. They also give enthusiasts a reason to take a vehicle out of the garage.

This is how an interest becomes part of a place. Auctions bring broad attention. Recurring gatherings keep local connections active. Private garage communities offer another setting for that same enthusiasm.

Give The Collection A Place Of Its Own

The next step is real estate designed around the vehicles. Car condos, also called garage condominiums, offer private units that can be individually owned. Depending on the development, features may include climate control, vehicle lifts, mezzanines, & shared clubhouses. They address a straightforward problem: a home’s parking arrangement may not match its owner’s collection. Around Scottsdale Airpark, several separate projects are adding to those options.

  • Finish Line Auto Club: Planned garages & owners’ clubhouse.
  • Toy Barn North Scottsdale: Expansion near Loop 101.
  • The Autobox: A second Scottsdale Airpark location.
  • Collector’s Garage At WestWorld: An approved collector-car development.
  • Elite Garages Scottsdale: Proposed individually owned garage suites.

The current plans of Finish Line describe more than 130,000 square feet of private garage condominiums & a three-level owners’ clubhouse. Toy Barn already has Scottsdale facilities on Helm Drive & Greenway Road. The projects above are at different stages, but together they show developers committing more space to an established automotive interest.

For someone keeping vehicles in Arizona between visits, a separate garage can also become part of how a second home functions.

See Why The Airpark Location Matters

Scottsdale Airport adds a practical connection. Flexjet’s $36 million facility includes a private terminal, offices, & maintenance hangar space, with the company targeting a late-2026 opening. Nearby vehicle storage can fit into a travel routine that starts at the airport & continues to an Arizona home. That puts airport access into the same conversation as garage location.

The surrounding development adds context. The Parque plans housing & commercial uses on the former CrackerJax site. George Kurtz’s FalconEye Ventures acquired Scottsdale Quarter & announced $100 million in improvements. Farther west, Mayo Clinic’s Discovery Oasis, Sprouts’ new CityNorth headquarters near Desert Ridge, & the Cardinals’ future North Phoenix headquarters add research space & workplaces along the broader Loop 101 corridor.

Even established properties are part of the conversation. At Westin Kierland, the Copper Residences proposal would replace the nine-hole Mesquite course with residential uses, including detached homes, while retaining 18 golf holes. That proposal remains subject to Phoenix’s review.

Connect The Garage To The Home

For a car enthusiast comparing properties, garage space deserves attention early. Silverleaf & DC Ranch offer established residential settings near the broader Airpark area. Optima McDowell Mountain adds condominium homes & rental residences. Parking arrangements vary across those properties. A separate garage condo can expand the options without requiring the entire collection to fit at home.

Through our Celeb & Sports Division, Williams Luxury Homes pays attention to these practical details of ownership. Travel schedules, time away, & keeping vehicles available locally can all matter when evaluating a property.

Scottsdale spent decades building its collector-car reputation. Now, the real estate supporting that interest is expanding. If cars are part of your life, where you keep them can be part of your home search from the start.
