McDowell Mountain Ranch

McDowell Mountain Ranch is a 3,200-acre master-planned community set against the McDowell Mountains in North Scottsdale. Nearly 4,000 residences are spread across more than two dozen neighborhoods, creating an unusually broad mix of real estate. There are single-family homes, condos, townhomes, patio-style residences, gated neighborhoods, guard-gated enclaves, golf course properties, and custom hillside homes. Areas such as Cimarron Hills, Sonoran Estates, Trovas, The Preserve, The Overlook, and Vermillion Cliffs each bring something different to the larger community.

The mountain setting is a big part of life here. McDowell Mountain Ranch sits beside the McDowell Sonoran Preserve, with nearby trail access and mountain, desert, and city-light views found throughout the community. Residents also have community centers with pools, spas, fitness facilities, tennis, pickleball, basketball, parks, and gathering spaces. The City of Scottsdale’s McDowell Mountain Ranch Park adds even more recreation nearby, including an aquatic and fitness center, sports fields, and a skatepark.

About The Real Estate

Real estate in McDowell Mountain Ranch changes considerably from one neighborhood to the next. Some homes overlook the public McDowell Mountain Golf Club, while others back to desert washes or sit higher against the mountain. Larger custom properties can be found in select hillside enclaves, while condos, townhomes, patio homes, and established single-family neighborhoods provide additional choices. McDowell Mountain Golf Club is an 18-hole Randy Heckenkemper design that was extensively renovated in 2011 with input from Phil Mickelson. The course is open to public play and also offers optional golf membership programs.

What makes McDowell Mountain Ranch distinctive is how closely the homes, mountains, desert, and recreation fit together. Higher elevations bring a different perspective across the Valley, while the Preserve puts thousands of acres of protected Sonoran Desert just beyond the community. Add public golf, neighborhood recreation, parks, and more than two dozen residential areas, and McDowell Mountain Ranch offers several very different ways to experience this part of North Scottsdale.
