Mountain Shadows
Mountain Shadows is a historic resort and residential area at the base of Camelback Mountain in Paradise Valley. Its story stretches back to the late 1950s, long before the current Mountain Shadows Resort was rebuilt. Today, the area includes established neighborhoods, newer single-family homes, luxury villas, resort condominiums, public golf, and several distinct residential enclaves surrounding the resort.
That variety is important. Mountain Shadows East and Mountain Shadows West are established residential neighborhoods with roots in the original development. Newer communities were added during the property’s redevelopment, including The Village at Mountain Shadows by Cullum Homes, as well as The Residences and Villas at Mountain Shadows by The New Home Company. There is also a separate collection of condominium and loft residences integrated with Mountain Shadows Resort.
Homes, Villas, & Resort Residences
Mountain Shadows real estate is not one community or one type of home. Several distinct residential areas share the Mountain Shadows name and Camelback Mountain setting.
- Mountain Shadows East: One of the area’s original residential neighborhoods, with established single-family homes near the resort and Camelback Mountain.
- Mountain Shadows West: Another established neighborhood connected to the history of the original Mountain Shadows development and golf course.
- The Village At Mountain Shadows: A guard-gated collection of 40 detached luxury homes developed by Cullum Homes, with architecture by Candelaria Design. One- and two-story plans, basement options, and the distinctive “car bar” were among the original offerings.
- The Residences At Mountain Shadows: The New Home Company developed 14 detached single-family residences with contemporary desert architecture and indoor-outdoor living.
- The Villas At Mountain Shadows: Also developed by The New Home Company, this collection includes 52 luxury condominium residences arranged in low-rise buildings near the golf course.
- Mountain Shadows Resort Residences: A separate collection of approximately 41 condos and loft-style residences integrated with the resort. Floor plans range from smaller residences to larger multi-bedroom and penthouse configurations.
- Camelback Mountain Setting: Mountain and golf views vary by property, with Camelback Mountain forming the dominant backdrop throughout much of the area.
Resort, Golf, & Paradise Valley Living
Mountain Shadows Resort sits at the center of the modern-day area. Rebuilt from the ground up and reopened in 2017, the resort includes Hearth ’61, pools, fitness facilities, event spaces, and The Short Course. The golf course is an 18-hole, par-54 layout redesigned by Forrest Richardson and is open to public play. Resort access or membership privileges associated with privately owned residences can vary by property and should be verified individually.
What makes Mountain Shadows unusual is the mix surrounding the resort. An established home in Mountain Shadows East or West offers something very different from a villa, resort condo, or newer detached residence. Yet all of these properties share the same central Paradise Valley setting beneath Camelback Mountain, with nearby resorts, dining, golf, mountain recreation, Old Town Scottsdale, and Scottsdale Fashion Square adding to the broader lifestyle.
