Atashi Yokocho Bringing 15 Japanese Restaurants To The Sydney

Atashi Yokocho Brings 15 Japanese Restaurants Under One Roof

Scottsdale's dining scene keeps growing. Now, a new concept plans to bring something you don't see every day. Atashi Yokocho is headed to The Sydney, and the project aims to pack around 15 Japanese food concepts into one space. The goal goes far beyond sushi rolls and ramen bowls. Instead, visitors can expect a wider look at Japanese food culture through brands, dishes, and dining ideas inspired by Japan itself. If all goes according to plan, this could become one of the most talked-about food destinations in "The Valley."

Quick Points

  • 15 Japanese eateries planned
  • 14,000-square-foot food hall
  • Part of The Sydney development
  • Opening planned for 2027 or 2028
  • Led by restaurateur Huy Truong

You’ll Find More Than Sushi Here

Japanese food often gets boxed into a few familiar categories. Most people think sushi first. Then ramen. Atashi Yokocho wants to widen that view. The concept is being built around the idea that Japanese cuisine offers far more than what many diners see today. That opens the door for food stalls, specialty concepts, and regional dishes that rarely make it into large commercial projects. The result could feel closer to what you'd find while wandering through food destinations across Japan.

  • Around 15 food concepts
  • Inspired by Japan
  • Wider range of cuisine
  • One shared location

That's what makes this project stand out. Variety drives the concept from the start.

Huy Truong Keeps Expanding His Arizona Footprint

If you've followed Arizona's Japanese dining scene, you've likely seen Huy Truong's name before. He's the restaurateur behind Mensho locations in Mesa and Phoenix. Another Mensho restaurant is already planned for the West Valley. He's also preparing to open Udon Shin in Mesa's Asian District near Main Street and Dobson Road. Now he's taking on a larger role with Atashi Yokocho by overseeing the food hall and its collection of restaurants. The project reflects years of work bringing Japanese brands and concepts to Greater Phoenix.

  • Operates Mensho locations
  • Opening Udon Shin
  • Expanding across the region
  • Leading Atashi Yokocho

His track record gives the project credibility before the doors even open.

The Sydney Keeps Adding New Tenants

Atashi Yokocho won't arrive in isolation. The food hall will become part of The Sydney, a 26-acre entertainment district rising near Loop 101 and 90th Street on Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community land. Construction has been underway since the project's 2023 groundbreaking. Palmer Development Group is leading development of the site, which aims to bring dining, hotels, shopping, live music, and entertainment into one pedestrian friendly destination. Openings are expected to roll out over several years, creating a new gathering spot along one of Scottsdale's fastest-growing corridors.

  • 26-acre development
  • Near Loop 101
  • Broke ground in 2023
  • Multiple phased openings

The Sydney is shaping up as one of the largest projects currently under construction in the area.

Hotels, Music & Food Are Coming Together

The Sydney continues to build its lineup. One of the biggest names announced so far is Reverb by Hard Rock Scottsdale, a five-story hotel with 168 rooms. Other dining and entertainment concepts are also expected across the property. Atashi Yokocho adds another piece to that mix by creating a destination focused on Japanese food culture. Instead of relying on a single restaurant, visitors will be able to move from stall to stall and try different concepts during the same visit. That approach fits the larger vision for the development.

  • Reverb by Hard Rock
  • Dining destinations planned
  • Entertainment venues coming
  • Retail space included

Piece by piece, the project keeps filling in.

A Long-Term Plan Is Finally Taking Shape

The food hall didn't appear overnight. The concept grew from a long-running collaboration between Truong and the team behind The Sydney. Diversified Partners helped facilitate the lease transaction that brought the project together. With plans now public, attention shifts to construction timelines and future tenant announcements. Atashi Yokocho is currently targeting a late 2027 to early 2028 opening. That's still a few years away, but the concept already offers a glimpse of what's coming next for Scottsdale.

  • Opening targeted for 2027-2028
  • Lease transaction completed
  • Partnership years in the making
  • More announcements likely

For fans of Japanese food, this is one project worth keeping an eye on.
