The History

Gainey Ranch started with Daniel C. Gainey, a Minnesota businessman who later became well known for breeding Arabian horses. His Scottsdale ranch supported Arabian horses, Hereford cattle, & agricultural operations long before the residential community arrived.

In 1980, Markland Properties purchased 560 acres from Gainey. Development of the master-planned community began during the mid-1980s. The original Gainey family residence was eventually converted into what is now the Gainey Ranch Estate Club.

That history still shows up throughout the community.

Gainey Ranch today contains 18 residential communities, each with its own satellite association under the larger Gainey Ranch Community Association.

Some neighborhoods feature condominiums.

Others contain detached homes.

Several line the golf course.

That variety is a big part of Gainey Ranch real estate.

Gainey Ranch Golf Club

Golf sits right in the middle of the Gainey Ranch story.

The Gainey Ranch Golf Club is a private club with 27 holes divided among three nine-hole courses:

Residential enclaves are positioned throughout the golf setting, giving some homes & condos fairway, lake, or mountain views.

A major resort sits right alongside the community.

The former Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Gainey Ranch became the Grand Hyatt Scottsdale Resort after completing a $115 million property-wide renovation in 2024. The project included updated accommodations, restaurants, pools, Spa Avania, & meeting areas.

The resort has 496 accommodations, including casitas.

That puts a major Scottsdale hospitality property directly next to the residential community.

It also adds restaurants, resort facilities, & another recognizable destination to this part of central Scottsdale.

Shopping & Dining

You do not have to travel far for restaurants or shopping.

The SHOPS Gainey Village sits at Scottsdale Road & Doubletree Ranch Road. The center includes boutiques, restaurants, personal services, home-related businesses, fitness studios, & other retail.

That location puts a commercial center close to the residential portion of Gainey Ranch.

Scottsdale Road also provides a direct route toward Old Town Scottsdale to the south & North Scottsdale destinations farther up the corridor.
