Axon Moves Closer To Expanding Its North Scottsdale Campus

Axon's New HQ

Axon Enterprise is making progress on plans to expand its footprint in North Scottsdale. The Scottsdale Planning Commission recently recommended land use and zoning changes that will enable the company to transform its 70-acre site into a mixed-use campus. The project includes nearly 2,000 residential units, commercial spaces, and other community-focused features. The final decision will now go to the Scottsdale City Council, which is expected to review the proposal later this month. This is yet again another key piece adding to billions worth of growth happening along the 101.

A Redefined Development Plan

Axon has made significant revisions to its original plans to address feedback from local residents and city officials. These changes aim to reduce density, minimize impact on neighboring communities, and create a more cohesive design.

Key Changes To The Proposal

  • Residential units reduced by 23% to 1,965.
  • Height of the southernmost building reduced by 21 feet.
  • Realignment of access roads to create a larger buffer zone.
  • Relocation of the hotel to the northeast corner of the site.
  • Enhanced landscaping and pedestrian-friendly design.

The updated plans include a blend of apartments and condominiums, along with green roof structures to improve connectivity between the campus components.

Campus Features At A Glance

  • 1.5-mile running trail.
  • Large dog park with dedicated activity zones.
  • Over 49,000 square feet for dining and shopping.
  • A significant hotel with more than 400 guest rooms.

These features aim to create a balanced environment for residents, employees, and visitors.

  1. Phase 1: Headquarters and 231 residential units.
  2. Phase 2: 365 condominiums and 262 apartments (starting in 2027).
  3. Phase 3: 390 apartments (starting in 2028).
  4. Phase 4: 717 apartments (starting in 2029).

Addressing Community Concerns

Local residents have raised concerns about density, traffic, and proximity to established neighborhoods. The revised plans aim to address these issues with thoughtful design and compromises.

Adjustments Made Based On Feedback

  • Reduced building heights near residential areas.
  • Improved landscaping to provide additional privacy.
  • Removed a previously proposed traffic roundabout.
  • Increased setbacks to minimize the visual impact of larger buildings.

While some concerns remain about the scale of the project, the adjustments reflect efforts to balance the company’s goals with the needs of the surrounding community.

A Transformative Project For North Scottsdale

This development signals a significant investment in Scottsdale’s future. The mixed-use campus could bring new opportunities for housing, jobs, and recreation while driving local economic growth.

If approved, this project would not only expand Axon’s presence in the area but also establish the site as a vibrant hub for innovation and community engagement. The Scottsdale City Council’s upcoming decision will determine the next steps for this transformative plan.
