Today’s update is focused on fresh numbers from Scottsdale’s visitor study as of mid August 2025. The city continues to see tourism as one of its strongest economic engines, and the latest figures show just how powerful that sector has become.

Visitors Keep Coming In

The study shows Scottsdale welcomed more than 11 million visitors in 2024. Domestic overnight travelers, international guests, and day trippers together created a huge impact. The visitor mix looked like this:

  • 4.9 million domestic overnight travelers

  • 5.1 million domestic day trips

  • 1.7 million international visitors

  • 11.67 million total visitors

Tourists came for all kinds of activities. Shopping, nightlife, casinos, museums, hiking, and celebrations ranked high on the list. Overnight visitors stayed an average of 2.9 nights and usually traveled in groups of nearly three.

Spending Power Of Travelers

The dollars poured into Scottsdale across multiple industries. Travelers did not just fill hotel rooms. They also shopped, ate out, and bought event tickets. Spending patterns stood out clearly.

  • $712 million on lodging

  • $510 million on food & drink

  • $283 million in retail stores

  • $226 million on transportation

  • $240 million on recreation & entertainment

  • $467 million from international visitors alone

All told, visitors dropped an estimated $2.4 billion directly in Scottsdale. With multiplier effects included, the total economic output jumped to $3.7 billion.

Jobs & Payroll Fueled By Tourism

This spending supported a massive amount of employment. Hospitality and related businesses grew along with it.

  • 28,000 jobs tied to domestic visitors

  • 8,000 jobs tied to international visitors

  • More than $1.38 billion in payroll

  • Roughly 36,000 local jobs overall

Those paychecks ripple through the economy, keeping restaurants, shops, and entertainment venues humming.

Tax Revenues Outpacing Costs

Visitors also carried their weight on the city’s balance sheet. Tax collections from tourism more than covered the cost of providing services.

  • $75.8 million in tax revenues from visitors

  • $54.7 million in municipal service costs

  • $22.8 million positive fiscal return

  • $1.42 revenue per $1 spent on services

Hotels, restaurants, and retail sales generated the bulk of the city’s tax income. Nearly all bed tax collections, 94%, came directly from tourists.

Final Thoughts

Tourism is big business in Scottsdale. The flow of visitors delivers billions in spending, thousands of jobs, and a healthy stream of tax revenue. For residents and investors alike, it’s proof that the city’s mix of resorts, entertainment, and desert lifestyle keeps paying off. The Greater Phoenix area benefits too, as Scottsdale continues to shine as a magnet for domestic and international travelers.
