Mesa and Gilbert are technically two different communities, but their boundaries are so intertwined that you can easily cross from one city into the other without realizing. Farming roots in this stretch of the East Valley run deep. From their foundings and on through World War II, Mesa and Gilbert were packed with cotton, grain and citrus farms. Even today, this trace of history is present throughout. Neighborhoods both old and new are laced with nostalgia, many of them evoking the classic Arizona ranch style. That being said, these relatively young communities also have a vast collection of more contemporary homes – many of them new builds – reflecting architectural designs that range from modern and minimalist to the downright avant garde.
